Scalloped Hammerhead

The scalloped hammerhead is perhaps the most iconic of all hammerhead species, famous for forming massive schools of hundreds or even thousands of individuals at seamounts and oceanic islands. Their distinctive scalloped head shape enhances sensory perception, allowing them to detect prey buried in sand. Encounters with schooling hammerheads are among diving's most spectacular experiences.

Dyktips

Schooling hammerheads are found at depth (20–40m) near seamounts. Descend quickly, stay close to the reef, and avoid exhaling large bubbles. They are wary of divers — patience and proper positioning are key. Early morning dives offer the largest schools.
