Swimming Pig

The swimming pigs of the Bahamas have become one of the Caribbean's most iconic and unusual attractions. These feral domestic pigs inhabit Big Major Cay (now known as 'Pig Beach') in the Exuma Cays, where they swim out to meet visiting boats in hopes of food. Their origin remains debated—theories include being left by sailors, surviving a shipwreck, or being placed there by locals.

Wskazówki dla nurków

The swimming pigs are a snorkelling activity, not a dive. Bring food (the boat operators provide it) and enter the water slowly. The pigs are enthusiastic and can be pushy. Protect cameras and valuables. Visit early morning before the tourist crowds for a calmer experience.
