About Tiburon Explorer
Navigating the Galápagos archipelago, the 38.1-meter Tiburon Explorer offers dedicated dive expeditions for up to 16 guests.
Schooling hammerheads, whale sharks, and marine iguanas are not just occasional visitors in the Galápagos; they are the foundation of a marine ecosystem built on a grand scale. This remote volcanic archipelago sits at a critical junction of multiple deep-water currents, a confluence that fuels an incredible food web attracting immense congregations of pelagic life. The cold, nutrient-rich water upwelling from the west supports resident populations, while warmer currents from the north bring migratory species. The result is a dynamic underwater world unlike any other, with volcanic topography creating dramatic walls and current-swept points. The Tiburon Explorer was designed specifically to navigate these powerful waters and provide direct access to the legendary, isolated dive sites of Darwin and Wolf Islands.
All dive activities are conducted from two large panga tenders, which are ideal for managing entries and exits in the region's strong currents and variable sea states. These fast boats ensure divers are dropped precisely on the mark for maximum encounter potential. The expansive dive deck is organized for efficiency, with individual gear stations for each diver to prevent crowding. For underwater photographers, the vessel offers a multi-level camera table with dedicated freshwater rinse tubs and an indoor, air-conditioned camera station with ample power and work space. Every dive is led by an expert local guide, whose knowledge of the currents, topography, and animal behavior is essential for safety and for positioning divers in the heart of the action.
Life aboard is structured around comfort and relaxation between dives. The vessel accommodates a maximum of 16 guests in eight well-appointed staterooms, creating an intimate and focused atmosphere. Five staterooms are located on the main deck and feature large windows with ocean views. The three remaining staterooms are situated on the lower deck, offering a quiet and stable environment. Each cabin includes a private ensuite bathroom with a hot water shower, individual climate controls, and ample storage. Communal areas include an indoor lounge with an audiovisual media center and a partially-covered sun deck, which is furnished with lounge chairs and a hot tub for warming up after diving in the cool Galápagos waters.
The onboard chef prepares a varied menu of international and regional dishes, emphasizing fresh, locally sourced ingredients where possible. Meals are typically served in the elegant main deck dining room, offering a mix of buffet-style and plated service throughout the day. The galley is well-equipped to handle a range of dietary needs, and special requests can be accommodated with advance notification. Between meals, a selection of snacks, fruit, and non-alcoholic beverages are always available to keep divers fueled and hydrated. The schedule is designed to support an active diving program, with satisfying and timely meals that complement the day's underwater activities.
Launched in 2020, the Tiburon Explorer is a modern, 38.1-meter motor yacht with a stable 7.5-meter beam. Its robust steel hull was engineered for the demanding conditions of the Galápagos, providing significant comfort and stability during the long, open-ocean crossings to the archipelago's outer islands. Powered by twin MTU Series 60 engines, the vessel maintains a consistent cruising speed of 10 knots, ensuring adherence to the demanding itinerary schedules. With a guest capacity of just 16, the ship’s public areas and dive deck feel spacious and uncrowded, contributing to a professional and relaxed expedition environment.
Itineraries are operated year-round, focusing entirely on the premier diving destinations within the Galápagos Marine Reserve. Each trip is planned to maximize time at the world-renowned islands of Darwin and Wolf, the primary objective for serious divers visiting the region. These remote northern islands are famed for their high-voltage drift dives and consistent sightings of large marine animals. Due to the challenging conditions—including deep dive profiles, strong and often unpredictable currents, and cool water temperatures—this liveaboard is best suited for experienced, advanced divers who are certified to dive deep and are comfortable in demanding open-ocean environments.
