About Situju7

The Situju7 offers an intimate exploration of Komodo, navigating its dynamic marine environments aboard a 32.7-meter Phinisi.

The islands of the Komodo archipelago rise from the sea like ancient, weathered reptiles, their arid, sun-scorched hills a stark contrast to the superheated marine ecosystem below. Here, the immense water exchange between the Pacific and Indian oceans generates powerful currents that fuel a world-class diving environment. These nutrient-rich flows support prolific coral growth on sheer walls, current-swept pinnacles, and protected reefs. The result is a region known for high-voltage drift dives, encounters with manta rays and sharks, and a surprising density of macro life. The Situju7, a traditional Phinisi, is built to navigate these dynamic waters, offering a small group of divers direct access to this concentration of marine biology. Diving from the Situju7 is organized for efficiency and diver comfort. The day’s activities are centered around a well-equipped dive deck, from which two tenders transport divers directly to the action. This system allows for precise drop-offs and pick-ups, maximizing time on Komodo's most productive sites. Crew members assist with gear and tank handling, ensuring preparations are smooth and effortless. Ample space is available for camera setup and maintenance, with dedicated rinse tanks provided to protect sensitive equipment. All dives are led by experienced local guides who possess an intimate knowledge of the currents and marine life, ensuring each underwater excursion is conducted with safety and site-specific expertise. With a maximum of just 10 guests, life aboard the Situju7 maintains a personal and relaxed atmosphere. Five individual cabins, each named after an Indonesian island and featuring its own private bathroom, provide comfortable and air-conditioned accommodation. These rooms range from the Bali Grand Suite to the Flores Junior Suite, Deluxe Sumba and Sumbawa cabins, and the twin-berth Lombok cabin. Beyond the private quarters, the vessel offers several areas for socializing or quiet reflection. An indoor lounge offers a cool retreat, while shaded open-air decks provide space to enjoy the sea breeze. The top deck is an ideal spot for sunbathing and observing the dramatic island scenery between dives, and onboard Wi-Fi allows for light connectivity. The culinary program onboard is an integral part of the journey, designed to fuel active days of diving. A talented chef prepares a varied menu that combines international dishes with distinct Indonesian flavors, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Meals are typically served in the main dining area, fostering a communal atmosphere where guests can share stories from the day's dives. The galley team is able to accommodate a range of dietary requirements with advance notice. A selection of soft drinks, juices, coffee, and tea is available throughout the day, and guests can purchase beer and other alcoholic beverages to enjoy while watching the sunset over the islands. The Situju7 is a 32.7-meter Phinisi, a traditional two-masted Indonesian vessel handcrafted from ironwood and teak. Originally constructed in 2016 and undergoing a complete refurbishment scheduled for 2025, the boat merges classic design with modern operational systems. It is powered by a dependable Mitsubishi 6c 250hp turbo engine, achieving a cruising speed of 5 to 6 knots for comfortable and fuel-efficient travel between dive sites. With a top speed of 7 to 8 knots, it can reposition effectively when needed. The vessel's solid construction and purpose-built design provide a stable platform for navigating the sometimes-choppy waters of the Komodo region. Situju7 focuses its operations exclusively within the Komodo National Park, running itineraries that showcase the region's most significant underwater environments. Depending on the season and prevailing conditions, voyages explore the action-packed channels of the north, the diverse central reefs, or the cooler, nutrient-dense waters of the south. Most trips begin and end in Labuan Bajo, Flores, which offers straightforward logistical access. This liveaboard is well suited for certified divers who are comfortable with strong currents and drift diving procedures. The small-group format and dedicated focus on diving make it an excellent choice for underwater photographers and any diver seeking an intimate, thorough exploration of Komodo’s demanding and highly rewarding marine world.
