About Raja Ampat Explorer

The Raja Ampat Explorer navigates Indonesia's rich marine ecosystems, offering access to some of the planet's most biodiverse underwater environments.

Within the Coral Triangle, the archipelagic region of Raja Ampat functions as a global center for marine speciation. The complex geography of its islands creates a varied underwater landscape of sheltered bays, current-swept channels, and deep-water passages. This environment supports an exceptional number of coral and fish species, from wide-angle scenes of schooling fish to macro subjects hidden on the intricate reef flats. The Raja Ampat Explorer is designed to navigate these waters, providing a dedicated platform for divers to experience this intense concentration of life. Diving activities are organized for efficiency and easy access to the region's top sites. Two motorized tenders transport divers to and from the main vessel, allowing for precise drop-offs at the reef's most active points. The dive deck provides ample space for personal gear storage and setup. For underwater photographers, the vessel is equipped with a dedicated camera station that includes charging points and separate rinse tanks to protect sensitive equipment. Guided dives are led by experienced professionals who are familiar with the area's specific sites and marine life behavior. Guest accommodation is provided in seven cabins, each with a private en-suite bathroom. These staterooms are divided between the upper and lower decks, with options for both double and twin bedding configurations to suit different group dynamics. Communal relaxation areas include an indoor, air-conditioned saloon where guests can review photos or socialize. Outside, a partially-covered sundeck offers an open-air alternative for enjoying the tropical climate and scenic island views between dives. The layout ensures all 14 passengers have sufficient space for both privacy and group interaction. The onboard chef prepares a menu that blends Indonesian flavors with familiar European cuisine. Meals are served buffet-style in a casual dining setting, offering a variety of dishes to suit different preferences. The kitchen is prepared to accommodate specific dietary requirements, and guests should communicate any needs in advance of their trip. Throughout the day, snacks and refreshments are available, ensuring divers are well-fueled for their underwater activities and time at sea. The Raja Ampat Explorer is a 33.52-meter vessel with a beam of 7.5 meters, providing a stable base for liveaboard operations. Originally constructed in 1994 and most recently updated in 2006, its design accommodates a maximum of 14 guests. The boat is powered by a 300 hp engine, enabling reliable navigation between the scattered islands of the archipelago. The vessel's size and layout are well-suited for extended journeys through remote regions, offering a comfortable and functional environment for a week or more at sea. The vessel primarily operates itineraries focused on the core dive areas of Raja Ampat, including its famous central and northern routes. These trips typically run during the main diving season from October through April, when weather and sea conditions are most favorable. Journeys usually begin and end in the port of Sorong, West Papua. The Raja Ampat Explorer is an ideal choice for experienced divers who prioritize time in the water and access to world-class sites. Its functional design and focus on core dive services appeal to photographers and marine life enthusiasts seeking a dedicated platform for exploring one of the planet's most significant marine ecosystems.
