About Putri Naga
The Putri Naga offers an intimate dive liveaboard experience in Komodo, focusing on expert-led exploration of the archipelago's unique marine environments.
In Indonesia’s Lesser Sunda Islands, a dramatic chain of volcanic landforms rises from the sea, creating the Komodo archipelago. The arid, savanna-like islands stand in stark contrast to the nutrient-rich waters that surround them. Here, the powerful exchange between the Indian and Pacific Oceans generates strong currents, which in turn support an immense concentration of marine life, from vibrant coral gardens to schooling pelagics and apex predators. The Putri Naga is designed specifically to navigate these dynamic waters, offering a small-group platform for focused exploration of this complex and challenging marine environment.
Diving operations are organized for efficiency and direct access to the region’s best sites. A single 6-meter fiberglass tender, powered by a 20hp Suzuki engine, transports divers quickly and safely from the mothership to the reef. Each dive is led by an experienced local guide with deep knowledge of Komodo’s currents, topography, and marine animal behavior. The focus is on safe, immersive dives that reveal the full scope of the underwater landscape, from macro-rich slopes to current-swept channels where large animals congregate. The small group size ensures personalized attention both in the water and during dive briefings.
Life aboard the Putri Naga is centered on comfort and a connection to the surrounding seascapes. The vessel accommodates a maximum of six guests across three main deck cabins. Each cabin is a private space equipped with its own bathroom, individually controlled air conditioning, a writing desk, and a safe deposit box for valuables. Large operable windows allow for natural light and ventilation, offering direct views of the passing islands. For social time between dives, guests can gather in the shaded open-air lounge, an ideal spot for relaxation and reviewing the day's underwater encounters. The ship-wide Starlink internet connection allows guests to stay in touch.
The culinary experience on board is designed to be fresh, flavorful, and representative of the region. A dedicated cook prepares a variety of meals, drawing inspiration from Indonesian and international cuisines. The menu emphasizes locally sourced ingredients, including fresh fish, tropical fruits, and vegetables. Meals are typically served in a relaxed, communal setting, allowing for easy conversation among guests. The crew is attentive to dietary requirements; guests should communicate any special needs at the time of booking to ensure they are properly accommodated. A selection of soft drinks, tea, and coffee is available throughout the day.
Putri Naga is a 25-meter motor vessel built in 2014 and scheduled for a complete refurbishment in 2025 to maintain modern standards of safety and comfort. With a beam of 3.8 meters, the hull is designed for navigating the varied sea conditions of the Indonesian archipelago. Power is provided by a single, reliable Isuzu Marine engine, delivering a cruising speed of 7 knots and a top speed of 10 knots. This allows for efficient transits between distant anchorages within the Komodo National Park. The vessel's design prioritizes a functional and robust platform for a small group of just six divers, ensuring a high level of service and an uncrowded atmosphere.
The vessel operates year-round within the Komodo National Park, offering itineraries that adapt to the seasonal shifts in weather and marine life migrations. Depending on the time of year, trips may focus on the northern sites known for warm, clear water and schooling fish, or the southern sites, which feature cooler, nutrient-rich upwellings and a different array of underwater fauna. All voyages typically begin and end in Labuan Bajo, Flores. Putri Naga is an excellent choice for experienced divers, photographers, and small groups of friends who prioritize the quality of the diving experience and an intimate, expedition-style atmosphere over extensive resort-like facilities.
