Ocean One

About Ocean One

The Maldivian archipelago's extensive coral reef systems, shaped by dynamic ocean currents, support a rich marine environment hosting diverse pelagic and reef species.

Within the Maldivian atolls, two distinct underwater worlds exist side by side. Sheltered inner reefs provide calm conditions for coral growth, while the deep channels cutting through the atoll rims act as highways for large pelagic species. These channels, or ‘kandus’, focus the ocean’s currents, attracting reef sharks, eagle rays, and, seasonally, manta rays. In contrast, submerged pinnacles known as ‘thilas’ are filled with resident schools of fish and soft corals. The Ocean One is a platform designed to navigate this dynamic environment, offering access to both the high-energy channel crossings and the intricate reef systems that define the archipelago. Diving operations are conducted from a large, dedicated support vessel, a traditional Maldivian dhoni. This approach keeps the main ship’s deck uncluttered and quiet, as all dive gear and compressors are housed separately. Before each dive, guests board the dhoni to gear up and receive briefings before being taken directly to the site. This system allows the Ocean One to remain anchored in calm lagoons while the dhoni provides precise drop-offs and pick-ups. An experienced crew and professional dive guides manage all logistics, ensuring a safe and efficient underwater program. Life aboard is designed for comfort and relaxation between dives. The vessel accommodates up to 26 guests across 15 cabins arranged over three decks: upper deck Panoramic Suite Cabins, main deck Seaview Cabins, and lower deck Standard Cabins. Thirteen bathrooms are available for guest use. Social activity centers around an air-conditioned interior lounge and multiple open-air decks with shaded seating. The top-level sundeck is an ideal spot for enjoying the sun or the clear night sky. Onboard WiFi is also available for guests. The culinary program is an integral part of the onboard experience. The galley team prepares a varied menu of international dishes and Maldivian flavors, catering to a range of palates. Meals are served three times a day, typically as a buffet that allows for social dining in the main saloon. The crew can accommodate most common dietary requirements, such as vegetarian or gluten-free, with advance notification at the time of booking. Between meals, a selection of snacks, fruit, and hot and cold beverages is always available to keep divers refueled. The Ocean One is a 37-meter motor yacht, built in 2015 and scheduled for refurbishment from 2024 to 2025. Its considerable 12-meter beam provides a stable platform, reducing roll both at anchor and during crossings between atolls. Powered by a 650 hp engine, the vessel cruises at 8 knots with a top speed of 11 knots for efficient travel. Designed to be self-sufficient for week-long voyages, the Ocean One is fully equipped to support its 26 guests and professional crew far from any shore-based facilities. The vessel’s routes are planned to align with the Maldivian seasons, typically focusing on the central atolls accessible from the main international airport near Malé. Itineraries are structured to present a full spectrum of local diving, from current-swept channel dives to explorations of coral-rich pinnacles. The Ocean One is best suited for certified divers who are comfortable with drift diving, as currents are a feature of the region’s most productive sites. This liveaboard will appeal to the diver who values an efficient, dhoni-based operation and seeks a comfortable base to experience the area's famous pelagic encounters.
